Are Carmen Ibarra y Karina Vagradova, visual artists, friends and partners for an eternity.
The alembic is an ingenious device for distilling liquids. In ancient times, it was used to produce perfumes, medicines, paints, and to extract alcohol from fermented fruits. It is said that the first alembic was created by a woman, Mary the Jewess, an alchemist and inventor. We have been captivated by the grace of the alembic as an object and its ability to extract the essence of things, and we have made it our symbol. As for its name, Lalambik is a fusion of different languages, reflecting the idea of this diverse, eclectic, and multicultural space.
Located in the heart of the Russafa neighborhood, it retains the ambiance of its original Arab garden. In more recent history, for over two decades it housed the Jarit Civil Association. Now it has been reborn as an art space.
We want Lalambik to be a platform for sharing creativity, ingenuity, enthusiasm, and positive energy. A place to experience enriching moments, learning from and educating each other. It's conceived as a space by and for women artists (we're currently forming our association), and rather than being an exclusive territory, it aspires to bring together, with a feminine and feminist spirit, all those who share our commitment to women's equality.
Among the important topics we want to address is the Artivism, And we will try to involve many artists from all over the world in it. We collaborate with Jarit Civil Association on several cultural and artistic projects and are preparing more collaborations.
Another important topic will be Art and Health. We have scheduled regular yoga sessions and will be offering workshops on body awareness, as well as meditation and art therapy.
We care about recycling and the sustainability, We are driven by respect for everything artisanal, handcrafted, made by hand, produced with ethical principles and with care for nature.
The small we think beautiful And we believe, like Galeano, that Many small people, in small places, doing small things, can change the world. Let's do it through art!
